Trucking Insurance – Information On Insurance for Truckers
Truckers insurance is one of the most important things to consider when you are a professional over the road truck driver. It is your safety net if something should happen to your rig, especially if you are an independent operator. There are several things to consider when you are purchasing trucking insurance such as how your premiums will be determined as well as how you will rate in comparison to other truckers and specific demographics.
Some things that are considered by trucking insurance companies are the drivers age, years of experience, how long the driver has been employed, how many minor moving violations as well as the number of major violations (usually within the last 3 years). Also a major consideration is total number of accidents and losses.
Your DOT safety record will weigh in on how a driver rates. If you have a violation of some kind it is important as a truck driver to do all that can be done to ensure it stays off of your driving record. Companies like Drivers Legal Plan and Interstate Trucker can assist with that.
When selecting your trucking insurance company be sure to look at them very close. Do some research and find out how they respond when they are called upon to deliver. Ask your older more experienced fellow truck drivers who have been in the trucking business a long time what their experience has been. Many times a driver who has been on the road for 30 or more years has a wealth of knowledge and they are usually a good source of referral information.
Above all be safe while on the road. Hopefully you will never need to use your trucking insurance, but if you do, you should be able to rest easy in knowing your truck has the best insurance coverage possible.
